Once the bus ride was done we jumped onto the boat and rode up to the Tower Bridge. We saw the sites from a water view.
The next day we walked the entire riverfront from Big Ben to the Tower bridge and back. We found Leake Street. It is a Street that runs under the Waterloo station tracks and it is FULL of graffiti. It is a tunnel that runs at least 200 meters and then out the other side with real graffiti.
The continued up the river front and hit the Tate Museum - the old power station. After we walked to the Tower Bridge and across to the the Tower of London.
There were 6 or 7 bridges we past along the way. We were going to take the bus back from here but it was going to cost 15 pounds for a 3 mile ride. We walked it.
We found a pub as we got close to home and we tried a meat pie. I was expecting the worst as I heard English food was bad. The meat pie was very good. It was like a good pot pie in the US.
On day 3 we headed to Buckingham Palace to watch the Changing of the Guard (along with 5000 other people). It was good to see. There were no trash cans or bathrooms around the Palace. I walked up a street and was directed to St John’s park. I had a 1 pound coin that the machine would not take. The operator did not have change. He directed me to the snack bar. They would not give change and directed me the the change machine. The change machine was out of order. Fuck it. I walked over intending to walk into the bathroom without paying. I did try. The gate was stuck open and I walked in and did my business. Whew!
Now but the time I headed back to Sally 30 minutes later, the place was PACKED. the streets were blocked off. It took me 30 minutes and a LONG way around to finally get back to Sally. There were thousands of people there to watch. It was 3 people deep for several blocks around.
Oh yeah. The Gay Pride Parade happened on Day 2 we were there. It ended at the Square right next to where we were staying. It was loud and lots going on. I expected chaos the next morning, but it was very clean. Lots of bags of trash but almost no litter.
We had 3 full days in London and we loved it. We did not get to see everything we wanted to, but we got a taste. We will definitely come back.
