Rule # 13 Have a plan if you get separated

After a day visiting the Roman Coliseum and the Roman Forum we head back to Termini on the Metro. As “we” enter the train, Sally stops just inside the door. It is packed and the crowd is not moving forward. I am in the doorway. The doors start to close and I quickly step out. I wave goodbye to Sally as the train starts moving. She is on the train and I am not. I say Termini although she can not possibly hear me. She does get the mouthed intention. We have not discussed what to do if we get separated. Do I wait here for her to return? She thinks about getting off at the next stop and returning to the place we got separated. She thinks about just getting off at the next stop and waiting. I catch the next train and take it to the Termini Station. There she is. Rule # 13 Have a plan if you get separated. We decide each of us will continue to the planned stop and wait. Our first real day out and we get separated. Luckily it worked out well. For the next 360 days it never happened again.

Sally was less calm than I during the separation. Her brain was running through every possible scenario. What happens if Aliens take the train I am on? Okay, maybe not that one but I don’t think I am that far off. Rule # 13 Have a plan if you get separated.
