We are spending another day in Chania. We looked at flights to Athens and another day here saved us 60 E each.
We spent 50 on a hotel down near the old town and closer to the bus station. We booked it through Expedia.com.
We can write, walk around old town again and get to the restaurant our host recommended.
I looked at car rental places in Athens. Trip Adviser had a good recommendation for http://www.athens-carrental.com and I used them to book a car for two weeks. It was $315 E including full insurance. This will allow us
to visit the entire Peloponnese Peninsula as we wish and get to Delphi. There is much more freedom with a car. Our
current host helped with areas to visit on the Peninsula. There are three lesser peninsulas at the bottom. The middle
peninsula has the best natural scenery. After Sparti head down to see it. And then head over to Monemvasia off the
coast of the eastern peninsula. There is an “island” with fantastic ruins right off the coast.
Corinth, Argos, Monemvasia, Sparti, Olympus, and Delphi are on the list so far.
Airbnb alternatives - bed and breakfast, hotels, wimdu
Since we had our issue with Airbnb I have looked elsewhere for accommodations. Not that they are not useful, and
we will use them again, but we will use other services too. Wimdu.com, booking.com, hotel.com, agoda.com,
priceline.com, bedandbreakfast.com, there are so many options to find a good place to stay. Hell, just show up
and there are signs everywhere for rooms for rent. Every ferry stop we arrived at, there was someone offering a
room. There are Hostels everywhere and most have private rooms. You do not have to stay in a 20 person bunk
We used Airbnb for 75 days exclusively and they lost our business for being unresponsive. We booked a hotel just
tonight to extend our stay with Expedia. The lesson here... Rule #12 Use multiple resources to find places to stay
and transportation. NEVER stay with one resource. We have found better pricing going direct to the airline pages
than Kayak or Skyscanner. I like Expedia, but they are not perfect. Always check at least two resources before booking.
If the prices are the same use your favorite.
Rome To Rio and Fetch My Way are great apps. They can point you to good resource pages, but you can check other
sites too. Stop planing everything to with in a inch of your life. Just show up and wing it. There is always somewhere
We spoke with a couple that were doing the $100 a night or more hotel and talked to them about Airbnb and other
sites. They could stay for less than half for one of the couples and have both couples staying in the same location.
This is a 75% savings over a typical hotel cost. They could also go with the 2 and 3 star hotels. Look at reviews on a
few sites. I have seen two star hotels rated with 4 stars and 4 star hotel rates with two stars. There is an expectation
level with each star, but we just need clean and comfortable. I saw a shirt today that collect memories not things.
I liked it. So Airbnb had it exclusive run, but no more. Customer Service is king and it always will be. They blew it. I
have a friend that does IT work and do you know his motto? Satisfaction guaranteed or it’s free. This is nice for the
customer. They know he will get the job done or he will not charge them. He is sharp enough that rarely happens,
but it is nice to know. http://steve.gimnicher.com/ in case you live in the Silicon Valley area and need computer work.
CUSTOMER SERVICE IS KING. NEVER FORGET THIS IF YOU ARE A BUSINESS OWNER. You might be on top now, but
the internet is filled with failed number ones - Netscape, Myspace, Earthlink, AOL, and the list goes on and on into
the thousands. Will Airbnb be there in 5 years or 10? Time will tell.
