Campeche is a walled city on the western coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. It name is one of 3 states on the Peninsula. We hit Hochob on the way. It was a very small site similar to Chicanna.
It had the Earth Monster and a couple other buildings. We tried to find another site but turned back as the road was looking more like a riverbed than a road (thinking of you Jared). Campeche itself was cool inside the walls, but the rest we saw was just another city. The beaches were an hour or more to the south. The main site we saw was Edzna. It was great. It had a raised road going through the site to other buildings and leading to an amazing plaza. Although you could not climb the main pyramid you could climb on the surrounding four buildings for fantastic views. We climbed all four of course and went around to all the other buildings outside of the plaza too.
There was a Christmas celebration on the 21st that lasted till midnight, but the parting most night went on till 3 am. Luckily we were not too close.
Campeche was hotter than other areas we visited. I had wanted to visit to see if this would be somewhere to retire, but I have removed it from my list. This is the cool season and it is high 80s and more. We did laundry hit the museo and walked the wall one evening. Overall Edzna was the highlight.
