So first a bit about the layout of the park. Banff is a National Park and a city. Lake Louise is a city within Banff NP. Yoho NP and Kootenay National Parks are along side Banff and Jasper NP is to the north.
We camped one day in Lake Louise at the Jurassic park tent site. Seriously, there was a electric fence around the tent campsite. That is not the name of the campsite, but that is how it felt. What are you keeping out of here!? Of course I touch the fence to see what would happen - wouldn’t you? The next day we went 20 minutes away to Yoho NP and Kicking Horse Campground for 4 nights. Oh yea, Sally freaked out and I lived.
A word about the Visitor Centers in the 3 parks - AWESOME. Free, helpful, maps and wifi.
We did Morraine Lake on the first day as we were in a bit late. We set up our tent, the last site available for that night and headed over to the lake. We did the walk to the end. The sun was out and the color of the water was so bright. This is not glacier green. There is silt in the water here from the glaciers so the water is murky but a great bright green color when the sun hits it.
We did not hear any dinosaurs overnight.
We stayed 4 nights in our new home. There were showers and hot water to be had. We also had sun. Two people mentioned that this was the first good weather they have had since summer began. Threats of rain, but sunny skies ruled the day we spent in Banff - Yoho - Kootenay National Parks. We did Lake Louise the next day after setting up our camp. This was the reason we came. These are the million pictures you see from Banff. It did meet the hype. There are 6 glaciers at the end of the lake - WOW. Clouds covered the top, but it was spectacular. The hotel you see in all the pictures, a Four Seasons of course. It was nice, but I didn’t even walk in the door. We walked/hiked to the far side of the lake and then on to the Plain of Glacier Tea House. We had a great lunch with a salad and a PB&J. It was surprisingly good.
We were able to get internet at the Visitor centers, so we would stop by occasionally. Sally is expecting a grandson so we try to connectively few days. It is strange not being on the internet all the time after Europe and home.
Grafitti! (or Gaffiti) Yeah baby. Trains. Trains mean graffiti. Field, the city of Field, is a stop for the trains before they head over Kicking Horse Pass. This pass was a ball buster before they put in the spirals. We were able to shoot the graffiti on both sides of two trains one morning. It was great.
The cafe in Fields also has really good food. So when someone says that place is really good, what does that mean. Good food or good prices or reasonable? I will try to be specific. It had good food. We went up to Takakkaw Falls and I was surprised. This falls rivaled Yosemite. It was Tall and it had the volume. It was unexpected from me. I was impressed. I have always said Yosemite is my top 10 natural site. It still is, but I am seeing more and Canada is impressive.
