through them. I was writing most day but it was TMI. On our second day we went on the hop-on hop-off bus to get the lay of the land. We went by some great Plazas, the Coloseum, The Vatican and
the Main drag so to speak. We still had jet lag and we got off and walked to the Fontana Di Trivia (very cool)
and then around the Plaza Venezia for an hour and then headed home. We had an AirBnB stay near the main
We did Coliseum tour that took you underneath the partial floor and up to the third level.
Don’t get me wrong it was great, but it did not give me the WOW that I had gotten in other places. The external
of the building is really cool. You can see the newly restored portion and the original part right next to each other.
I would have liked to walk more of the lower level and the upper level. My really had high expectations and
We did an early tour of the Sistine Chapel. Now that was awesome! Our guide spoke about the paintings and
history as we were walk towards it. We walked through several other museums on the way. Once we arrived
we knew some good history and what we were looking at. There were maybe 20 people there when we arrived.
It was quiet and we were able to really take it in. We spent several hours walking all over the museums inside
the Vatican. We went up the the Cupola on top of the dome. The views were incredible.
We spent the next day walking around the Piazza Borghese and catching up on a few Plazas we missed.
We walked our butts off. The public transportation in Rome was great.
7 days and 6 nights in Rome and then off to Naples and Pompelli.
I was really surprised with Naples. We only planned two day here and we could have easily added another
day or even two. We went to Pompelli on our first day. I had heard mediocre reports so I was not expecting
too much. That place is HUGE. So much walking and so much to see. No way to see it all in one day. We were
there for five hours of more. We did not see it all, but were satisfied we saw enough. My feet told me so. It was
an easy 45 minute train ride there and back.
The next morning we walked down to the waterfront and the Castle de ‘ore and then back up the main street.
We headed up into the Spanish Town area and then back to old town were we were staying. Naples is great and
I wish we had another day or two.
We are planning a week to 10 days out and have learned to plan transportation before accommodations. We also
learned 3 night minimum stay at any location. Even with travel that would mean two complete days to see the area.
It is hard to keep up with all the photos I am taking and write every day
Rule #10 Plan transportation before accommodations and Rule #11 Plan a 3 nights stay at a minimum.
