paperwork and were on our way in short order. We headed out of town.
We stopped on our way from Athens to Korinthos in Agioi Theodoroi. I was just getting used to driving in Greece.
I did not stop in town but pulled over onto a side street. We found a restaurant there and stopped. We had a great
lunch just a block off the beach.
Then we headed on to Korinthos. I wanted to see the Isthmith Canal as we crossed, but I never saw it. Korinthos or
Corinth as it is shown sometime... Now that brings me to a point. We have seen the same site or location on the
same sign spelled two different ways - the SAME SIGN.
Give a tourist a break! Give Google Maps a break. Back to point.
We arrive in Korinthos and drove through town and out to the site. It was late but we like to get the lay of the land
for the following day. We hit the Main site and then headed up the hill. We thought about walking it. Thank God we
drove. It must have been 2 miles or more to the castle parking lot. The castle was free, but closed at 15:00.
We went back to town and found a room for a couple nights at the Tassos Rooms & Taverna. It was a good basic
room and a small breakfast and good coffee.
We were planning on going up the the castle (Arcocorinth) first thing but changed our minds with the morning light
on the ruins. We bought our ticket and headed into the site. We spend a couple hours walking around. There was
more of the red flowers we liked around this site.
There was water still running through on the of the ruins. We could hear it, but not see it. We headed up to the
castle. It was larger than I had imagined. I did a WOW after walking through the first gate. There was lots of steps
to the top and an uneven trail, but the views were great. We spent a couple hours here too for a good day out.
We got back to the car and talked about lunch. It was still early... So we headed to the canal. I wanted to see it and
was planning on going tomorrow on our way out of town. It was only 20 minutes away. We headed to Isthmia.
We found the lower bridge. I could not understand how it worked. There were not tower to raise it. There were
no cables or gears to raise it. We crossed and went to have lunch. When we crossed I looked up the canal and it
looked cool. I wanted a picture of that. We had lunch at the restaurant right on the canal. After lunch we walked
to the bridge. Before we got to it the gates started closing. It was going to “raise”. HOLY MOLY the bridge start
going down. It dropped 30 meters to the bottom of the canal. We went over a couple bridge to get some shots
of the canal. It had very steep sides and was a treat to view. I am glad we headed here and saw this.
We are off the Nafplion tomorrow.
