I have been bad over the last month with writing and posting anything. Here is an update.
Two weeks to go...
We packed up everything we had and loaded up a truck On Monday the 18th of
January. We went by the Mountain View Day Workers Center and picked up 3 people to help. They were fast and efficient. We were
planned on a 7 hour load and it was complete in two and a half. We cleaned up for a couple hours, showered
and headed out a day early. MLK day made the traffic light and we made good time to Redding. We spent the
night and headed out early the next morning. It was raining and it rained all day. We were on the i-5 heading to
Portland so it made little difference. Traffic was moving and we were just driving over each pass as they came.
We had a Penske truck and it has all the power we needed. It said it topped out at 75 and of course I never drove
faster then that. Really after 70 it felt shaky with the wind and big rig traffic so we kept it at 65 mostly. We were towing
Sally's car on a tow dolly too and that make it a LONG vehicle. stopped at one rest stop and the wind was blowing the rain sideways. We ran to the bathrooms and were soaked.
The front got wet heading towards the bathrooms and the back got wet heading back to the truck. Fun, fun, fun...
We made it to Portland about 4:30 PM. We unloaded a few things and left the rest till morning. We hired two people
from the Portland Day Laborer Center and had the truck unloaded in two and a half hours. I highly recommend using
the Day Laborer Centers to get extra help.
We were now unemployed, homeless and in Portland. We spend two days relaxing and then headed to Seattle for the
weekend. I had never been to Washington before. Technically I drove a couple miles over the border the day before,
but it was dark and I really did not see Washington. I liked Seattle. We stayed at an Airbnb in the Belltown part of
downtown. We walked to the Seattle Aquarium on the rainy Saturday afternoon. We had fun seeing all the fish and
sea otters, octopus, and everything they had to offer. We spent 3 hours there. We drove to Bellevue and had dinner
with Sally’s brother and sister that night. He cooked a nice pasta with a spicy sauce. It was fun socializing with everyone.
We has some home-brew beer which was really good.
The next day we went to the Space Needle and the Chihuly Garden and Glass.
Both were really fun. We drove back to Portland on Sunday January 24th. We fly to Rome on January 31st .
